Two professors at the University of Samarra publish a study of groundwater desalination in a journal that is part of the Scopus containers

Professor Abbas Hadi Abbas and Assistant Professor Khaled Hamid Latif -professors- at the College of Engineering at Samarra University, published a joint paper in Scopus containers titled “Desalination of Groundwater for Several Areas in Baghdad – Iraq Using Reverse Osmosis Membrane Technology” within Proceedings of the AIP Conference Proceedings in November 2022.

The paper used reverse osmosis technology to study the removal of salts and groundwater desalination for several areas in Baghdad, including Al-Amriya and other regions.

This study’s importance comes from the scarcity of freshwater that Iraq directs due to the low levels of the Tigris and Euphrates. As a result of the construction of a large number of dams in Turkey and the climatic changes surrounding the country, this calls for serious consideration of alternatives to fresh water in the coming years.
