The Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Scholarly Preferences of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Habannakah Al-Maydani

The Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Education for Human Sciences – University of Samarra discussed a master’s thesis submitted by the student Khalil Ismail Ibrahim, entitled:

“Scholarly Preferences of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Habannakah Al-Maydani (d. 1425 AH) in His Tafsir ‘Ma‘arij al-Tafakkur wa Daqa’iq al-Tadabbur,’ from the Beginning of Surah Al-A‘raf to the End of Verse 46 – Collection and Study.”

The thesis aimed to highlight the contributions of one of the prominent scholars of Qur’anic exegesis in the Levant by tracing the interpretive preferences of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Habannakah Al-Maydani in his tafsir. It involved collecting and analyzing these preferences according to a comparative scientific methodology, as well as clarifying his approach in weighing scholarly opinions and interpreting Qur’anic vocabulary.

The study included the collection of twenty interpretive selections. The researcher presented the views of various scholars regarding the selected terms, then clarified Al-Maydani’s position on them, followed by his own evaluation of what he considered closest to the evidence.

The study also addressed the Sheikh’s methodological approach in his tafsir, noting his reliance on the chronological order of revelation, and highlighted the scholarly value of his work “Ma‘arij al-Tafakkur wa Daqa’iq al-Tadabbur.”

The findings demonstrated that Al-Maydani’s tafsir is rich in precise meanings and diverse fields of knowledge, due to its inclusion of linguistic, rhetorical, and well-structured methodological analysis.

The study concluded by emphasizing the importance of benefiting from this methodology in contemporary Qur’anic studies, as it offers a rigorous scientific perspective in understanding the Qur’anic text.
