College of Agriculture at Samarra University Receives Ministerial Committee to Establish “Smart Agriculture” Department

The College of Agriculture at Samarra University welcomed the Ministerial Committee tasked with reviewing the establishment of the “Smart Agriculture” department. The reception was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Khalid Abdullah Al-Sahar, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul-Monem Hassan Ahmed. This initiative aligns with the college’s endeavor to modernize its academic programs and keep pace with the latest scientific and technological advancements in the agricultural sector.
The visit included a comprehensive field tour of the college facilities. The committee inspected the infrastructure, lecture halls, and scientific laboratories, as well as the available technical and technological resources. This evaluation aimed to determine the college’s readiness to launch this specialized discipline, which is considered a modern field essential for supporting sustainable agricultural development.
The committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Hamid Abid from the Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up, and included a distinguished group of academics and specialists:
* Professor Dr. Osama Ali Abdullah / Office of the Undersecretary for Scientific Research Affairs.
* Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Ali Abdullah / University of Mosul – College of Engineering.
* Dr. Abdulsattar Khalil Shihan / Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up.
* Assistant Lecturer Jader Mohammed Ali / Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus.
* Mr. Haider Mahmoud Abdul-Razzaq / Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up.
* Dr. Amal Mohammed Waheed / Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up (Member and Rapporteur).
The College Deanship emphasized that establishing the Smart Agriculture department is in harmony with modern trends in agricultural education. The goal is to prepare scientific cadres capable of utilizing Artificial Intelligence, modern irrigation systems, and digital technologies to develop the agricultural sector. Such expertise will contribute to boosting production, achieving sustainability, and addressing environmental and climatic challenges.
This step is part of the College of Agriculture’s vision at Samarra University to update its academic offerings and introduce specialized majors that meet labor market demands, ultimately serving the community and fostering agricultural development in Iraq.
