The College of Agriculture at Samarra University Organizes a Seminar Entitled “The Importance of Afforestation and its Impact on the Environment”

The College of Agriculture at Samarra University organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Importance of Afforestation and its Impact on the Environment,” with the aim of raising environmental awareness about the importance of afforestation and its role in improving quality of life and maintaining ecological balance.

The seminar addressed the concept of afforestation as one of the most important sustainable environmental solutions, given its significant role in improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, as well as reducing air pollutants and mitigating their health effects on humans.

The seminar also highlighted the importance of afforestation in combating climate change, reducing temperatures, and mitigating the urban heat island effect, in addition to its role in protecting soil from erosion and desertification, improving its fertility, and increasing groundwater recharge.

The symposium addressed the importance of vegetation in preserving biodiversity and providing a suitable environment for living organisms, as well as the economic and social benefits of afforestation through supporting natural resources, creating job opportunities, improving mental health, and enhancing the urban landscape of residential areas.

The symposium emphasized that afforestation represents a long-term environmental investment that contributes to environmental protection and achieving sustainable development, given its direct impact on improving the climate, air quality, and human health.
