College of Applied Sciences Organizes Workshop on Program Accreditation for Science Colleges
The Department of Pathological Analysis at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a specialized workshop entitled: “Program Accreditation: The Nine Standards and the Importance of ABET”, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Arshad Hamid Yaseen and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abbas Fadil.
The workshop aimed to introduce faculty members, technical staff, and those responsible for program accreditation committees to the fundamentals of program accreditation and its importance in improving educational outcomes and ensuring their quality.
Dr. Hamid reviewed the nine main accreditation standards, focusing on ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) standards, which are considered among the most prominent international benchmarks in academic accreditation for scientific and applied programs.
In a related context, the workshop witnessed extensive discussions on the requirements for achieving program accreditation and the mechanisms for implementing the nine standards within the college departments, in addition to reviewing previous experiences in this field.
At the conclusion of the workshop, several recommendations were proposed, including the need to intensify efforts to develop implementation plans for initiating program accreditation procedures and to work on bridging the gaps between the current situation and international standards, in a way that ensures the advancement of the outcomes of the Department of Pathological Analysis and the Colleges of Applied Sciences in general.
