Department of Applied Chemistry Organizes a Scientific Course on Proteins and Enzymes
The Department of Applied Chemistry at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a scientific course titled “Proteins and Enzymes as Drug Targets,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Ameera Abdul-Munim Yaseen.
The course lecture aimed to clarify the role of carrier proteins and how drugs that inhibit the reuptake of neurotransmitters function, which is a fundamental principle in the treatment of psychological and neurological disorders. It also highlighted that drugs are not discovered by chance, but rather are designed based on the three-dimensional structure of the target protein, which enhances treatment efficiency.
At the conclusion of the course, several recommendations were proposed, including the importance of integrating research between chemistry and pharmacy to improve understanding of drug interactions at the molecular level, as well as updating curricula by incorporating molecular modeling techniques into undergraduate and postgraduate programs to keep pace with global advancements in drug discovery.
