Faculty Member at the College of Applied Sciences Publishes a Scientific Research Paper Indexed in Scopus
Assistant Lecturer Ali Younis Alwan, a faculty member at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in a journal indexed in Scopus, entitled:“Comparative Evaluation of Silver Oxide Nanoparticles and Spirulina platensis in the Treatment of Real Industrial Wastewater.”
The paper was published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering, which is ranked in Quartile 2 (Q2) in the Scopus database.
The study investigated the comparative efficiency of silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag₂O) and the microalga Spirulina platensis in treating real industrial wastewater. Silver oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using the chemical precipitation method and characterized using advanced analytical techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
The results demonstrated that silver oxide nanoparticles synthesized via chemical precipitation and characterized using modern techniques exhibit a high capacity for the removal of chemical pollutants and heavy metals from industrial wastewater, highlighting their potential as an effective and sustainable solution in environmental treatment applications.
