PhD Thesis of Lecturer Juwan Abdulwahid Receives “Pass” Evaluation After Defense at the College of Education for Pure Sciences

The PhD thesis of Assistant Lecturer Juwan Abdulwahid Alawi, a faculty member at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, received a “Pass” evaluation after being defended at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the same university.

The thesis was titled:
“Preparation and Characterization of Novel Nanoadsorbent Materials for the Treatment of Polluted Water Using Green Chemistry Methods: A Kinetic and Thermodynamic Study.”

In her research, the candidate aimed to prepare and characterize a new adsorbent material, such as activated carbon (AC), combined with mixtures of wormwood leaves and acacia seed pods in specific ratios. The study also involved the use of activated carbon characterized by multiple techniques, including FT-IR, AFM, SEM, BET, XRD, and EDX.

The findings showed that FT-IR analysis indicated the surface of activated carbon to be chemically inert and lacking active functional groups. Additionally, EDX results revealed a high carbon content. The synthesized nanostructured activated material demonstrated a high adsorption capacity for the studied dyes.
