The Human Rights Unit at the College of Applied Sciences organized a seminar on the International Day for the Prevention of Extremism.
The Human Rights Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology at the College of Applied Sciences and the Human Rights Division at the University of Samarra, organized a seminar on “The International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Ahmed Suhail Hussein and Assistant Lecturer Saib Zahim Abbas.
During the seminar, Dr. Suhail discussed the concept of violent extremism, outlining its intellectual, social, and psychological causes, and explained the relationship between violent extremism and terrorism, as well as their impact on societal stability.
Assistant Lecturer Zahim emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of moderation, tolerance, and acceptance of others within society, particularly among youth, and highlighted the role of educational, media, and religious institutions in preventing extremist thought.
At the conclusion of the seminar, recommendations were provided, urging the integration of awareness programs into school curricula to foster critical thinking and a culture of peaceful coexistence, as well as organizing workshops and training courses for youth on dialogue skills and combating hate speech.
