Workshop at the College of Applied Sciences Highlights National Standards for Program Accreditation
The Quality Assurance Division at the College of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Department at the Presidency of the University of Samarra, organized a workshop entitled “National Standards for the Accreditation of Science Programs.” The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Nashwan Hussein Ali, Asst. Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Shawkat, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abbas Fadil.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Aysar Saleh Mohammed, Dean of the College, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ghassan Fares Atiyah, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Marwan Qahtan Jassim, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, in addition to heads of departments and a number of faculty members and staff.
In this context, the lecturers highlighted the importance of academic accreditation and its role in advancing the quality of educational programs. They also outlined the requirements of the national standards for accrediting science disciplines, as well as promoting a culture of institutional quality and reinforcing the principles of continuous improvement.
For his part, Dr. Hussein explained the concept of academic accreditation and its strategic dimensions in developing educational institutions. He reviewed the national standards specific to science programs and the indicators used to measure their achievement, in addition to mechanisms for program specification based on intended learning outcomes and their alignment with the National Qualifications Framework.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shawkat emphasized the importance of linking learning outcomes to labor market needs and strengthening partnerships with industrial and research sectors. He also clarified the role of performance indicators in measuring the efficiency of academic programs and the achievement of their educational objectives.
In turn, Dr. Abbas recommended the integration of efforts between academic departments and quality assurance units to fulfill accreditation requirements, contributing to the development of study programs, enhancing graduates’ scientific and professional competencies, and strengthening the institution’s academic standing locally and internationally.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities that the College is keen to organize in support of quality assurance and academic accreditation, stemming from its vision to achieve institutional excellence and advance higher education outcomes.
