College of Education for Pure Sciences Presents Sustainable Solutions to Environmental Pollution in a Scientific Seminar
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at Samarra University presented ‘Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions’ in a scientific seminar delivered by Dr. Ahmed Khalid Hussein and Assist.Lect. Saba Thamer Mahmoud, both faculty members in the Department of Chemistry at the college.
The aim of the seminar was to explain environmental pollution as one of the most prominent challenges facing the world today, including air, water, and soil pollution resulting from industrial activities, transportation, urban expansion, and poor waste management.
Ahmed emphasized that pollution not only affects the environment but also extends its impact to human health, the economy, and biodiversity, through industrial emissions such as burning fossil fuels, excessive use of plastic, and deforestation.
In the same context, Saba addressed the negative effects of pollution, including the spread of diseases, climate change, degradation of natural resources, and the extinction of some living organisms, while explaining the role of humans in pollution, as the daily behaviors of individuals play a major role in either increasing or reducing pollution.
In turn, the two lecturers concluded their seminar with a set of recommendations, most notably: relying on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy instead of fossil fuels, the need to improve waste management through recycling and reducing consumption, in addition to the importance of spreading environmental awareness through education and media, and supporting environmental legislation that limits pollution and imposes monitoring on factories.
