A faculty member from the College of Education publishes an article on the suffering of the people of Gaza
Dr. Faten Abdulsalam Mazal, a faculty member at the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Samarra, published a newspaper article on the Palestine Online website entitled “Winter Without Walls: The Suffering of Gaza’s People Between Tents and Rain.” In the article, she shed light on the harsh humanitarian conditions endured by displaced people in the Gaza Strip with the onset of winter.
The author opens the article by describing the suffering of thousands of families living in tents that lack even the most basic means of protection from cold and rain, and the daily challenges that accompany this reality—especially for children, the elderly, and the sick—amid a severe shortage of heating supplies and essential materials, in addition to the complex health and humanitarian conditions imposed by forced displacement.
In her article, Mazal reflects deeply moving humanitarian images of solidarity and mutual support among residents despite the harshness of reality, emphasizing that the winter suffering in Gaza is an extension of a prolonged siege and continuous displacement, met with a clear determination to remain steadfast and cling to life.
She concludes by stressing that the suffering of the people of Gaza cannot be reduced to a single season or temporary circumstance; rather, it represents an ongoing humanitarian issue that calls for a genuine awakening of conscience and an active role for the media and academics in conveying the voices of those affected and defending their right to a dignified life.
