A student from the Department of History publishes an article on the strategy of confronting the drug phenomenon at the University of Samarra

The newspaper Kul Al-Akhbar, in its issue No. (3873), published an analytical article by the student Bahaa Al-Din Thabit Mukhlef from the Department of History at the College of Education for Human Sciences, entitled: “The Confrontation Strategy of the University of Samarra Against the Drug Phenomenon.”

In the article, he discussed the academic and awareness-raising roles undertaken by the university in confronting the spread of drugs among youth and students.

He explained that the university has adopted a vision aimed at transforming the campus into an intellectually and behaviorally safe environment through scientific conferences, seminars, psychological counseling workshops, and field campaigns targeting students and the local community.

He further pointed out that the university’s colleges and research centers have worked on providing multidimensional approaches to addressing the phenomenon from psychological, social, religious, and legal perspectives, with a focus on the causes leading to addiction and methods of prevention.

He also noted that the university sought to establish the concept of partnership between the academic institution and the security, judicial, and educational authorities, in a way that enhances the effectiveness of national efforts to combat drugs and limit their social and health impacts.

Moreover, he emphasized that sustaining these efforts requires continuous institutional support for psychological counseling units, applied research, and awareness programs targeting various youth groups.

The writer concluded his article by stressing that the university’s role goes beyond traditional education toward protecting society and promoting awareness, making it one of the key pillars in the intellectual and social confrontation of the drug phenomenon in Iraq.
