The College of Education for Human Sciences Holds a Workshop on the Occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
The Human Rights Unit at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a workshop entitled \”The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.\” The workshop was presented by Mr. Abdulrahim Hamed Fadel, Head of the Human Rights Unit, and Ms. Enas Saeed Jassim, with the aim of raising community awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and ways to curb its spread.
At the beginning of the workshop, Fadel explained the concept of drugs and their various types, highlighting the major health, psychological, social, and economic consequences of drug addiction. He emphasized that public awareness and community accountability are two fundamental pillars in combating this phenomenon.
For her part, Jassim stressed the importance of the complementary roles of families, educational institutions, and the media in combating drug abuse and promoting a culture of awareness and social responsibility to protect all segments of society, particularly young people.
The workshop also included a contribution by Assistant Professor Bakr Mahmoud Alou, who emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of prevention among young people and highlighted the role of academic institutions in supporting awareness initiatives that help reduce the spread of drugs and strengthen social responsibility.
The workshop concluded with participants presenting several recommendations, most notably reinforcing the principle of social responsibility in addressing the drug problem, reporting suspicious cases, and supporting awareness programs aimed at preventing drug addiction. The Human Rights Unit also distributed educational brochures to attendees containing guidance on the dangers of drugs and methods of prevention.
