The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Samarra, discussed a doctoral dissertation entitled: “Grammatical Causation according to Lakdah Al-Isfahani (d. 310 AH) in his book Al-‘Ilal fi Al-Nahw: An Analytical and Comparative Study,” submitted by the student Sabah Khalaf Ali, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language, as part of the requirements for obtaining a PhD degree in Arabic Language and Literature / specialization in Grammar.
The study aimed to examine the concept of grammatical causation (al-‘illa al-nahwiyya) in the thought of Lakdah Al-Isfahani through his book Al-‘Ilal fi Al-Nahw, analyzing his approach to grammatical reasoning and comparing it with the approaches of other grammarians. It also sought to classify the types and functions of grammatical causes and reveal their role in constructing grammatical rules and explaining linguistic phenomena.
In conclusion, the study highlighted the scholarly significance of the book Al-‘Ilal fi Al-Nahw as an important source in the Arabic grammatical heritage. It also contributed to clarifying Al-Isfahani’s methodological approach to grammatical causation and demonstrating his role in establishing and interpreting grammatical rules according to a scientific perspective based on induction and analysis.
On its part, the Media and Government Communications Division congratulates this distinguished academic achievement, wishing him continued success in his academic and scholarly career, and hoping that his research output will contribute to enriching linguistic studies and serving the Arabic language and its literature.
