The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences Enhances Awareness of Deafblindness Issues through a Scientific Discussion Seminar
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Samarra, promoted awareness of deafblindness issues through a scientific discussion seminar organized on the occasion of the International Day of Deafblindness, observed annually on June 27. The seminar aimed to address the psychological and educational challenges faced by individuals with deafblindness and explore ways to support and empower them for effective integration into society.
The seminar featured two main themes. Assistant Lecturer Muthanna Zakaria Salem delivered a lecture entitled “Deafblindness: Psychological Challenges and Support Strategies,” in which he highlighted the psychological effects associated with deafblindness and emphasized the importance of providing a supportive environment that fosters self-confidence and independence.
Assistant Lecturer Marwan Naji Ali then presented a lecture on “The Educational Role in Empowering Individuals with Deafblindness and Promoting Their Social Inclusion.” He reviewed the significance of educational and training programs in developing the abilities of this group and enhancing their participation in academic and social life.
In conclusion, the speakers stressed that empowering individuals with deafblindness requires the combined efforts of educational, psychological, and community institutions. They emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of inclusion and respect, thereby ensuring equal opportunities and helping individuals with deafblindness achieve their aspirations and demonstrate their capabilities.
