The Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education Holds a Seminar on Drug Abuse in the Light of Islamic Sharia

The Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Education for Human Sciences organized an awareness seminar on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The seminar was titled “Drugs in the Balance of Islamic Sharia: Their Dangers and Means of Prevention” and was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Bakr Mahmoud Alou.

Dr. Alou began the seminar by highlighting a number of Islamic legal texts and jurisprudential evidences that emphasize the prohibition of drug abuse and trafficking due to their harmful effects on individuals and society. He explained that drugs cause serious health, psychological, social, and economic problems, in addition to contributing to family disintegration, increasing crime rates, and threatening community security.

He further stressed the importance of strengthening religious values among young people and promoting moral principles that help prevent behavioral deviations. He also discussed the responsibility of families, educational institutions, religious organizations, and media outlets in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and limiting their spread.

On the sidelines of the seminar, awareness posters containing educational and guidance messages were distributed. These materials highlighted the dangers and devastating effects of drugs, methods of prevention, and the importance of adhering to religious and moral values in building a safe and healthy society.

In conclusion, Dr. Alou recommended intensifying awareness programs targeting youth, strengthening cooperation among educational, religious, and security institutions to combat the drug problem, and supporting community initiatives aimed at protecting individuals from falling into addiction. Such efforts, he noted, contribute to enhancing intellectual and social security and protecting society from this dangerous phenomenon.
