A Faculty Member in the Department of Chemistry Publishes a Q1-Indexed Scopus Research Paper

Dr. Osama Ahmed Yassin, a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in the journal RSC Advances, issued by Royal Society of Chemistry, affiliated with the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom. The journal is ranked in the first quartile (Q1).

The research is entitled:
“Spectroscopic, computational, and biological activity studies of bivalent metal complexes of (E)-N-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene) isonicotinohydrazide”.

The study aimed to synthesize, characterize, and evaluate a new ligand denoted as (HL), derived from a condensation reaction between 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde and isoniazid, in addition to preparing a number of its coordination complexes with divalent metal ions, including zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), and platinum (Pt).

The results showed that the ligand (HL) coordinates with metal ions in a bidentate mode through the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group and the nitrogen atom of the azomethine group. The findings also indicated that the zinc and cadmium complexes in compounds (1) and (2) adopt a tetrahedral geometry, while the cadmium complex in compound (3) exhibits an octahedral geometry, and the platinum complex in compound (4) adopts a square planar geometry.

In turn, the Media and Government Communication Division at the College of Education for Pure Sciences congratulates the faculty member on publishing his research on international platforms, wishing him continued scientific success and achievement.
