Assistant Lecturer Marwan Abdul Karim Abdul Baqi, a faculty member in the Department of Physics at the College of التربية للعلوم الصرفة – University of Samarra, has published a scientific paper in the Iraqi Journal of Applied Physics, which is indexed ضمن Scopus in the fourth quartile (Q4).
The research was titled:
“Fabrication and Comprehensive Characterization of Cr₂O₃-Doped Polypyrrole Thin Films for Enhanced Ethanol Gas Sensing Applications.”
In his study, the researcher aimed to fabricate thin films of polypyrrole doped with chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) at different weight concentrations using the drop-casting technique. The study also included an investigation of their structural, morphological, optical, and electrical properties, in addition to evaluating their performance in ethanol gas sensing at room temperature.
The results showed that the addition of chromium oxide contributed to improving crystallinity, increasing the effective surface area, and reducing the energy band gap from 2.83 eV to 2.68 eV. It also enhanced electrical conductivity and improved charge transport within the prepared films.
Furthermore, gas sensing tests revealed that the sample doped with 7.5 wt.% exhibited superior performance, achieving a sensitivity of approximately 12% at an ethanol concentration of 200 ppm. This highlights the potential of this material for developing low-cost, high-efficiency gas sensors that operate under ambient conditions
