Chemistry Department Organizes a Scientific Course on Green Chemistry
The Chemistry Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific course entitled “Green Chemistry Towards a Sustainable Future,” presented by Dr. Baidaa Adnan Jasim and Assistant Lecturer Tayba Abdul Salam Aboud.
The course aimed to explain how chemistry can contribute to environmental protection and ensure the well-being of future generations, with a focus on designing safer and more sustainable chemical processes and products that help prevent pollution at its source.
The lecturers explained the concept of green chemistry as an approach aimed at reducing emissions and waste while achieving a balance between development and environmental protection. This can be achieved through waste prevention, the use of renewable raw materials, the development of safer solvents, the application of catalysts, and the production of biodegradable materials such as bioplastics.
The course concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the need for scientists, researchers, and manufacturers to adopt the principles of green chemistry in their daily practices, considering it a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and building a safer chemical future for coming generations, in addition to promoting the use of clean energy sources and advancing concepts related to atomic chemistry.
