Department of Chemistry Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions
The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar titled “Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions,” presented by Dr. Ahmed Khalid Hayyin and Assistant Lecturer Saba Thamer Mahmoud.
The seminar aimed to highlight environmental pollution as one of the most pressing challenges facing the world today. It includes air, water, and soil pollution caused by industrial activities, transportation, urban expansion, and poor waste management.
The speakers emphasized that pollution affects not only the environment but also human health, the economy, and biodiversity. This impact arises from industrial emissions such as burning fossil fuels, excessive use of plastics, and deforestation.
In the same context, the lecturers discussed the negative effects of pollution, including the spread of diseases, climate change, degradation of natural resources, and the extinction of certain living organisms. They also highlighted the role of humans, noting that individuals’ daily behaviors play a major role in either increasing or reducing pollution.
The seminar concluded with a set of key recommendations,:
•Adopting renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy instead of fossil fuels
•Improving waste management through recycling and reducing consumption
•Promoting environmental awareness through education and media
•Supporting environmental legislation to reduce pollution and enforce regulation on factories
•Encouraging the use of eco-friendly transportation such as bicycles and electric vehicles
