Department of Chemistry Organizes a Scientific Seminar on High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar entitled “High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC),” presented by Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Abdullah, Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Mahmoud, and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Daham Humaidi.
The seminar included a detailed explanation of the operating principle of the device, which is based on separating sample components according to differences in their migration speed inside the separation column through the use of the mobile phase and stationary phase. This process enables highly accurate identification and quantification of chemical compounds.
The lecturers also reviewed the main components of the HPLC device, including the mobile phase reservoir, pump, injection unit, separation column, detector, and the data recording system that displays results in the form of chromatographic peaks that can be analyzed.
The presenters emphasized the importance of this technique in various scientific fields, particularly in pharmaceutical, food, and environmental industries, due to its high speed and accuracy in analysis. They also highlighted its ability to analyze complex compounds using small sample quantities, as well as its high precision in separating and analyzing different chemical compounds.
