PhD Dissertation in the Department of Chemistry Demonstrates the Preparation, Characterization, Nanodoping, and Electrochemical Evaluation of Heterocyclic Compounds

 

A PhD dissertation in the Department of Chemistry, College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, investigated the “Preparation, Characterization, Nanodoping, and Electrochemical Evaluation of Heterocyclic Compounds Derived from Sulfathiazole.”

The dissertation, presented by researcher Hala Adnan Dawood, aimed to synthesize nanomaterials such as graphene oxide using the Hummers method and reduce it to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) (S21). The study also evaluated the antibacterial activity of some synthesized compounds against two types of bacteria, including both Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains.

The results demonstrated that the electrochemical properties of the synthesized oxides and nanocomposites, evaluated using LCR, CV, and EIS techniques, showed improved performance compared with individual oxides. LCR measurements revealed an increase in electrical capacitance and enhanced dielectric properties, while CV measurements indicated active electrochemical behavior, increased current response, and a significant improvement in specific capacitance, highlighting the effectiveness of these nanocomposites in charge storage.

Furthermore, EIS measurements recorded a decrease in charge-transfer resistance and improved electrical conductivity, reflecting the role of the nanocomposites in enhancing the electrochemical properties of the prepared materials.
