A Year of Creativity Reaped: Conclusion of Graduation Project Defenses at Samarra University’s Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, Samarra University, witnessed the conclusion of graduation project defenses for fifth-stage students. The defenses spanned three consecutive days, with two daily sessions held in the morning and evening. A total of 29 architectural projects were presented and discussed, representing the culmination of an entire year of continuous research, design, and development under the supervision and guidance of specialized faculty committees.
The submitted projects reflected a rich diversity of visions and orientations. They bridged cultural and civilized dimensions through heritage revival centers with economic development via industrial, tourism, sports, and healthcare projects. Furthermore, they offered sustainable future solutions for crises and exceptional circumstances, such as adaptive buildings and underground cities.
At the same time, the students’ humanitarian and social awareness was embodied in promising designs for orphan care centers and the rehabilitation of correctional institution inmates, emphasizing the role of architecture as an effective tool for positive change in society.
The sessions were characterized by a rigorous scientific evaluation from the defense committees, which included Lecturer Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, Lecturer Raouf Abdul-Razzaq Nouri, Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Hadi Mahmoud, Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Saadi, Assistant Lecturer Rawaa Fadhil, and Assistant Lecturer Laheeb Bahjat Saab. This was alongside an elite group of the department’s engineers, including Engineer Maria Salem Dawoud and Engineer Istabraq Muayyad Najm, who contributed to the success of the events through outstanding logistical management and administrative organization.
With this achievement, the College of Engineering reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the university’s vision of supplying the labor market with innovative architectural cadres capable of supporting sustainable development and building a resilient future rooted in national identity.
