College of Engineering Discusses Challenges and Treatments for Air Pollution in Industrial Cities
The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra hosted a specialized scientific seminar entitled “Air Pollution in Industrial Cities and Methods of Treatment,” presented by Lecturer Laith Amjad Hameed, a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering.
The seminar covered the most prominent environmental challenges facing cities with increasing industrial activity. It focused on analyzing the main sources of pollutant emissions, such as heavy factories, power generation stations, and vehicular traffic.
In the same context, attention was drawn to the hazardous effects of these pollutants on human health, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as environmental impacts such as increased global warming and the deterioration of air quality.
For his part, the presenter reviewed a set of effective scientific and practical solutions. These included adopting modern filtration technologies, implementing strict control systems for industrial emissions, expanding the use of clean energy, in addition to the importance of sound urban planning and planting green belts.
In conclusion, the seminar stressed the necessity of concerted efforts between the industrial and governmental sectors and activating the role of educational and research institutions to ensure the achievement of sustainable development that preserves a healthy and safe environment for the community.
