College of Engineering Organizes a Scientific Seminar on the Role of Sensors in Developing Transportation Systems

The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a specialized scientific seminar titled “The Importance of Using Sensors in Transportation Engineering and Their Role in Sustainability.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Abdullah Hassan, in the presence of a group of faculty members and specialists in engineering and technical fields.
The seminar addressed the growing role of sensors in developing modern transportation systems, particularly in collecting accurate traffic data, analyzing traffic performance, improving road safety, and supporting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

At the same time, the seminar highlighted the contribution of these technologies to achieving environmental sustainability by reducing congestion and carbon emissions, and improving the efficiency of energy and resource consumption.

For his part, the lecturer emphasized the importance of adopting sensors as an essential tool in the sustainable planning, operation, and maintenance of road infrastructure. He explained their role in supporting data-driven decision-making, enhancing public transport efficiency, and supporting active transportation, such as walking and cycling.

The seminar witnessed productive scientific discussions by the faculty members, emphasizing the need to expand the use of these technologies in future projects and link them to smart city trends and sustainable development, keeping pace with global advancements in transportation engineering.

The seminar concluded by stressing the active role of such scientific forums in enriching academic awareness and strengthening the bonds of expertise exchange. It also focused on the necessity of translating theoretical research into tangible practical applications that advance society and support the development of the engineering sector.
