College of Engineering Organizes a Workshop on the Roots of Intellectual Extremism and Ways to Confront It

The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra, organized a specialized workshop titled “Intellectual Extremism: Its Roots and Ways of Confrontation in the University Environment.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Baraa Arheem Jassim, amidst the attendance and active engagement of the college’s staff and students.
The workshop focused its core themes on deconstructing the structure of extremist thought by shedding light on its historical and social roots, as well as the psychological reasons that could lead to the adoption of exclusionary views.
In a related context, the lecturer highlighted the effective ways to curb this phenomenon by activating constructive critical thinking tools among university students, thereby enabling them to distinguish destructive ideas and refute them using a scientific and logical approach.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of building a safe academic environment grounded in a culture of tolerance, openness, and respect for intellectual diversity. It stressed that meaningful dialogue and acceptance of the other are the two fundamental pillars in fortifying the university personality and building a conscious generation that contributes to the stability of both the academic and national society, away from immoderation and extremism.
