College of Engineering Organizes a Workshop to Celebrate International Human Rights Day
The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra, represented by its legal official, Omar Saad Hamid, organized a specialized workshop titled “International Human Rights Day.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Dawoud Sulaiman Ayed and was attended by a group of professors, staff, and students who showed remarkable interaction with its themes.
The workshop covered the historical development of the human rights concept, leading up to the modern legal concept, with an emphasis on the role of the state in protecting fundamental rights and freedoms and addressing violations.
Furthermore, the workshop discussed the importance of integrating principles of human justice when interpreting legal texts, the interdependent relationship between the rule of law and the values of mercy, justice, fairness, and preserving human dignity, and affirmed that human rights have become a supreme legislative and judicial necessity that must be adhered to.
For his part, Sulaiman explained that the College of Engineering’s celebration of this day embodies its endeavor to disseminate and embed the supreme values of human rights among its affiliates and students. This effort contributes to creating a generation committed to preserving rights and dedicating itself to justice and equality, in addition to broadening students’ perspectives and updating their legal skills in this field.
