The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra—represented by its head, Jurist Omar Saad Hamid—organized a specialized workshop titled “Clean Energy: Our Responsibility Toward Society,” presented by Dr. Shaimaa Hisham Abdul-Malik (Head of the Academic Systems Division at the college).
The workshop addressed the importance of the strategic shift toward renewable energy sources as a fundamental pillar for building a secure future, while explaining the essential differences between traditional and clean energy in terms of environmental impact and long-term economic costs.
At the same time, the presenter highlighted various sustainable energy sources such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, demonstrating their positive reflections on economic development through creating new job opportunities, reducing pollution, and supporting vital sectors like education and health.
The workshop concluded by reviewing the energy landscape in Iraq and the region, emphasizing that adopting renewable energy solutions has become an inevitable necessity to face climate change challenges. This places educational institutions and society before a shared responsibility to consolidate this culture and protect the rights of future generations to a clean and sustainable environment.
