Faculty of Engineering Organizes Workshop on Roots of Intellectual Extremism and Ways to Confront It
The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Samarra, organized a specialized workshop titled “Intellectual Extremism: Roots and Ways of Confrontation in the University Environment” The session was presented by Assistant Lecturer Baraa Arheem Jassim, with the attendance and active participation of faculty members and students.
The workshop’s themes focused on deconstructing the structure of extremist thought by highlighting its historical and social roots, as well as the psychological factors that may lead to the adoption of exclusionary ideologies.
In a related context, the lecturer outlined effective ways to curb this phenomenon by activating constructive critical thinking tools for university students. This empowers them to distinguish destructive ideas and refute them using a scientific and logical approach.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of building a safe academic environment based on a culture of tolerance, openness, and respect for intellectual diversity. It stressed that purposeful dialogue and acceptance of the “other” are the two fundamental pillars in fortifying the university personality and building a conscious generation that contributes to the stability of the academic and national community, far from excess and radicalism.
