For a Safe Engineering Work Environment: A Training Course at the College of Engineering on Prevention and Risk Reduction

The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a training course entitled “Occupational Safety in Workplaces,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Hatem Abdul Karim Alwan, a faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department.
The course targeted the college’s faculty, staff, and students, aiming to raise awareness of preventive measures and the importance of adhering to safety instructions within engineering workplaces.
The course covered several key areas, including the concepts of occupational safety, mechanisms for prevention and reducing risks and accidents in the work environment, and an introduction to personal protective equipment (PPE) along with its correct usage, in addition to emergency response procedures and first aid.
For his part, the lecturer emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of safety among workers and students, given its vital role in providing a safe work environment and minimizing injuries and losses, while stressing the need to comply with the approved standards and guidelines at engineering sites.
The course concluded with remarkable interaction from the attendees through questions and discussions addressing the current reality of occupational safety in workplaces, while emphasizing the necessity of continuing to organize such scientific and awareness-raising events on a regular basis.
