Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering Discusses the Severe Implications of Violence on Societal Stability

The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra, represented by its legal officer Omar Saad Hamed, organized a specialized workshop entitled “A World Free of Violence: Women and Children… Rights Awaiting Fulfillment” on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Lhaib Bahjat Saeb, a faculty member in the Department of Architectural Engineering.

The workshop focused on the issue of violence against women, considering it one of the major humanitarian and social challenges that deeply affect societal stability and development.

The presenter reviewed the concept of violence in its various forms, highlighting physical, psychological, sexual, economic, and digital violence, while analyzing the social and cultural factors that contribute to the persistence of this unfortunate phenomenon.

Simultaneously, the workshop discussed the severe consequences of violence on women from health, psychological, and social perspectives, in addition to its broader impact on family stability and the social fabric as a whole.

The discussion also covered the legal and legislative frameworks established to protect women, as well as the critical role played by official institutions and civil society organizations in efforts to prevent violence and promote a culture of human rights.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the utmost importance of intensifying awareness campaigns, developing specialized programs to provide psychological and legal support for affected women, and enhancing effective community partnerships that contribute to reducing violence and building a safer and more just environment for women.
