Lecturer Laith Amjad Hameed Publishes Scientific Research on Thermal Degradation of Agricultural Plastic Waste in Clarivate Database

Lecturer Laith Amjad Hameed, a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Samarra, has published a prestigious scientific research paper in the “Journal of Environmental Management” issued by the global publisher “Elsevier.” This journal is classified within the first quartile (Q1) in the Clarivate databases, boasting an impact factor of 8.4 and a citation score of 14.4.
The research includes a comprehensive and in-depth scientific review of recent studies demonstrating the thermal degradation process of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) waste generated from agricultural activities. In his paper—titled “Thermal degradation of contaminated agricultural high-density polyethylene (HDPE) waste: A review of operating conditions, contaminants, and process behavior”—the researcher focused precisely on analyzing the impact of operating conditions and the presence of contaminants in raw materials on the efficiency of the chemical process and the nature of the extracted products.
At the same time, the study highlighted the scientific complexities associated with chemical reaction pathways under the influence of contaminants and the resulting emissions, while identifying knowledge gaps that researchers still face in this vital field. It is worth noting that this academic work aims to draw a roadmap for future research trends and outline the fundamental challenges hindering the transition of laboratory research results regarding the thermal degradation of agricultural plastics into large-scale, environmentally friendly practical applications.
In this regard, the Deanship of the College of Engineering, represented by the Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Amjed Saleh Mahmood, congratulates this distinguished scientific achievement, which embodies the efforts of the teaching staff to enhance the rigor of academic research and innovate sustainable engineering solutions for plastic waste management and environmental protection.
