The College of Engineering discusses the challenges of drugs and sustainable development in a training workshop
The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Engineering, Samarra University – represented by its head, Dr. Shaimaa Hisham Abdulmalik – organized a training workshop entitled “Drugs and Sustainable Development: A Threat to Community Security and the National Economy”, presented by Dr. Muhammad Hamed Majeed, a lecturer at the College of Administration and Economics at the same university.
The workshop presenter highlighted the dangers of drug proliferation and its direct impact on the social structure, community security, and the national economy, as well as its hindrance to sustainable development paths.
In a related context, the lecturer addressed the most important factors that contribute to the exacerbation of this phenomenon, while also presenting ways to reduce it through awareness, effective legislation, and strengthening the role of educational and media institutions.
The workshop witnessed remarkable interaction from faculty and students, as the interventions and questions focused on the role of universities in preventing addiction and raising the level of community awareness.
It concluded with recommendations that stressed the need to intensify educational programs inside and outside the university, and to activate the partnership between academic, security and health authorities to support drug control efforts and achieve the requirements of sustainable development in Iraq.
