The College of Engineering is organizing a training workshop that includes the dimensions of addiction between prevention and treatment.
The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Engineering, Samarra University, represented by its head, Dr. Shaimaa Hisham Abdulmalik, organized a training workshop entitled “Addiction from a Medical and Psychological Perspective: Prevention and Treatment,” presented by Professor Dr. Sahib Asaad Wais, a faculty member at the College of Arts at the university.
The workshop facilitator began with a comprehensive scientific explanation of the nature of addiction and its development, clarifying the differences between physical and psychological addiction, and the biological and neurological dimensions that contribute to shaping addictive behavior, in addition to addressing accompanying psychological factors such as anxiety and trauma.
In a related context, Weiss addressed the environmental and social factors that increase the likelihood of falling into addiction, providing a detailed presentation of the effects of the most prominent addictive substances on the brain and body.
On the other hand, the prevention aspect of the workshop focused on the role of the university and the family in raising awareness and providing psychological support to young people, with an emphasis on monitoring behaviors.
The lecturer concluded by presenting the latest medical and psychological treatment strategies, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and rehabilitation programs to ensure no relapse.
It is worth mentioning that the workshop witnessed a distinguished attendance from the Assistant Scientific Director of the University, the Dean of the College, a ministerial delegation, and a number of university and college leaders, faculty members, and students.
