Within Sustainability Week.. A Scientific Seminar at the College of Engineering Highlights the Prospects of Renewable Energy

The Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled “Green Transformation Engineering in Iraq,” delivered by postgraduate student Ghassan Faisal Hassan. The seminar was held as part of Sustainability Week activities aimed at promoting environmental and technological awareness.
The seminar emphasized the necessity of a fundamental transition from a traditional carbon-based economy to a sustainable economy based on renewable energy technologies such as solar and wind power. It also presented a precise assessment of global climate challenges and the rising rates of carbon emissions.
In this context, the presenter highlighted leading international and regional models in this field to inspire solutions appropriate to the local context. He also shed light on Iraq’s significant national potential, particularly its abundant solar radiation, describing it as an underutilized economic and developmental opportunity.
The seminar concluded that the green transition represents an existential choice for the country’s future. It stressed the importance of updating engineering curricula and supporting student innovations in alignment with Iraq Vision 2030, which aims to generate 12 gigawatts of clean energy, thereby ensuring a sustainable environment for future generations.
