Department of Creed Discusses a Master’s Thesis by Student Mohammed Saleh Talfah

The Department of Creed and Islamic Thought at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Samarra, discussed a Master’s thesis submitted by the student Mohammed Saleh Talfah, entitled: “Annotations of Muhammad Hafid (d. 1188 AH) on Surah Ya-Sin from Al-Baydawi’s Tafsir, from the Beginning of the Manuscript to the Author’s Statement: ‘And it is indicated in his saying because they became accustomed to it and practiced it’ – A Study and Critical Edition.”

The thesis examined and edited a rare manuscript by Sheikh Muhammad Hafid Al-Nathari, consisting of precise annotations on the Tafsir of Imam Al-Baydawi (Anwar al-Tanzil wa Asrar al-Ta’wil), specifically on Surah Ya-Sin. The significance of the study lies in the prominence of the interpreted surah (Ya-Sin) in the Qur’an, the rarity of the surviving works of Muhammad Hafid, and the contribution of this work in enriching the Islamic library by bringing to light a manuscript that had long remained unpublished.

The study aimed to serve the Qur’an and its sciences through the critical editing of tafsir works, to highlight the contributions of later scholars in Qur’anic exegesis and clarify their scholarly methodologies, and to present a verified and annotated text accessible to students and researchers.
