UN Resolution 1325 as the of an Awareness Lecture to Strengthen Women’s Role in Peacebuilding
The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, in cooperation with the Department of Islamic Financial and Banking Sciences and the Department of Creed and Islamic Thought, organized an awareness lecture titled: “UN Resolution 1325 – When Women’s Voices Become a Force for Change,” with the participation of a group of specialized female academics: Assistant Professor Dr. Sara Abbas Faraj, Dr. Israa Rasheed Abd, and Lecturer Surur Naji Mohsen.
The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of UN Resolution 1325 and its role in enhancing the position of women in the fields of security and peace. It addressed two main محور: the first introduced the resolution and its key provisions, while the second focused on the reasons behind its adoption, as a response to the severe suffering experienced by women during armed conflicts.
The speakers explained that the resolution emerged due to increasing violations against women, including sexual violence, forced displacement, and loss of safety and protection, emphasizing that it focuses on safeguarding women and ensuring their human rights during times of conflict.
The lecture also stressed the importance of involving women in peace processes, negotiations, and reconstruction, as well as empowering them politically and socially to contribute to societal stability. It affirmed that women’s participation is a fundamental pillar in achieving more sustainable and just peace.
The lecture concluded by emphasizing that Resolution 1325 represents an important step toward recognizing women as active partners in building security and peace, transforming their voices from victims of conflict into influential forces for change and future development.
