Raising Awareness About the Impact of Social Media on Social Relationships
The Social Research Division of the Department of Dormitory Affairs raised awareness among university students about the “Impact of Social Media on Social Relationships Among University Students” through an educational seminar presented by Ms. Marwa Mahmoud Yassin and Ms. Tayba Ahmed Mutlak.
Ms. Mahmoud discussed the positive role of social media in strengthening relationships among students and facilitating communication between them. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between the virtual world and real social life on campus.
On the other hand, Ms. Ahmed pointed out the potential negative effects of excessive use of social media platforms, such as isolation, weakened real-life social skills, and digital addiction.
The seminar stood out for its active student participation through discussions and questions, creating an interactive atmosphere that reflected the students’ interest in the topic and its direct impact on their lives.
The speakers recommended encouraging conscious use of social media, enhancing real-life relationships among students on campus, and organizing awareness workshops on mental and social health. They also stressed the need to activate the role of social counselors in monitoring the effects of excessive use of digital applications.
This seminar was part of the university’s efforts to promote social and psychological awareness among students and to address the challenges facing social relationships in light of rapid technological advancement and the widespread use of social media.
