The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences Organizes a Specialized Training Course on the Calibration of Physiological Devices
The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a specialized training course entitled “Calibration of Physiological Devices.” The course was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Rasheed Ghanim and Assistant Lecturer Ammar Fares Al-Attiyah, with the attendance of faculty members and students specializing in physiology and sports sciences.
The course was designed to enhance participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical proficiency in the calibration and standardization of physiological devices employed in physiology and sports science laboratories. It aimed to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of physiological measurements, while providing an in-depth understanding of calibration methodologies, quality assurance principles, quality control procedures, and potential sources of measurement error that may affect data validity.
The training sessions encompassed both theoretical and practical components, including the calibration of heart rate and blood pressure monitoring systems, respiratory gas analysis equipment, lactate measurement devices, and body composition assessment instruments. The course further addressed laboratory documentation requirements, preventive maintenance procedures, equipment performance verification protocols, and internationally recognized quality standards governing laboratory operations.
This initiative forms part of the College’s ongoing commitment to advancing the scientific and technical competencies of its academic staff and students, fostering best practices in laboratory-based education and research, and enhancing the quality, accuracy, and credibility of physiological assessment and evaluation within both health and sports performance settings.
