The Human Rights Unit at the College of Physical Education Organizes a Workshop on the Role of Sports in Youth Empowerment
The Human Rights Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Samarra organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Role of Sports in Youth Empowerment,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Muthanna Harith Akraym.
During the workshop, the lecturer highlighted the vital role that sports play in enhancing young people’s abilities and developing their potential. He explained that sports are not merely a physical activity, but also an educational and social tool that contributes to building a balanced personality, promoting mental well-being, and developing leadership and teamwork skills.
Akraym focused on the social dimension of sports and its role in promoting values of cooperation and tolerance, reducing negative behaviors, and expanding opportunities for youth participation in community activities. He also addressed the economic dimension of sports, noting that it opens new horizons for employment and investment, supports entrepreneurship, and contributes to the promotion of sports tourism.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer presented several recommendations, most notably integrating sports into youth policies, supporting community initiatives, providing sports infrastructure, and encouraging girls’ participation. He emphasized that sports represent a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.
