Students of the University of Samarra Lead Campus Sustainability Activities

During the 2025–2026 academic year, students at the University of Samarra organized a wide range of activities focused on environmental awareness and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. These included scientific seminars on aquaponics, industrial water treatment, and sustainable materials, as well as training courses on recycling and workshops on scientific research and sustainable development.
Student-led initiatives also featured awareness campaigns such as the National Tree-Planting Day campaign, educational plays titled “Sustainability is Everyone’s Responsibility”, and the university’s first-ever marathon under the slogan “Sport is the Path to Permanent Sustainability.” Students also actively participated in Sustainable Energy Week, showcasing exhibitions of recycled products and innovative student projects.
The university emphasized that these student-driven activities highlight the growing integration between education and practical application, showcasing the role of youth in leading the green transition on campus, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Climate Action.
