University of Samarra launches programs for organic waste treatment and environmental awareness

The University of Samarra announced the implementation of a program to recycle organic waste and convert it into eco‑friendly agricultural products. The project, currently being established on campus, aims to treat large amounts of food waste from restaurants, cafés, and student housing. The university has also developed strategies for waste collection, treatment, and recycling, while providing technical guidance for operating treatment plants within the legal framework.

In parallel, the College of Agriculture organized a training course on Waste Management, highlighting sustainable treatment methods and the role of society in protecting the environment. Meanwhile, the College of Applied Sciences launched an awareness campaign titled “Waste Reduction: An Environmental and Economic Necessity” to promote sustainability among students and the local community.

The university also strengthened its work on chemical and biological safety through the CBRN Committee, which held meetings and training sessions to ensure safe handling of hazardous materials in laboratories.

These initiatives reflect the university’s commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability and reinforcing the role of educational institutions in serving the community and achieving sustainable development.
