University of Samarra Strengthens Funding for Sustainability Research

The University of Samarra has announced a steadily increasing financial commitment to sustainability research, with funding rising from USD 1 million in 2023 to USD 1.3 million in 2026, bringing the total investment over four years to USD 4.6 million.

Funded projects included the establishment of a Renewable Energy Research Center, sustainable agriculture initiatives, climate monitoring networks, and student innovation grants for green startups. The university also expanded into smart city research, water management in the Tigris Basin, low-carbon construction materials, and biotechnological solutions for pollution control.

The university emphasized that this funding marks a transition from local initiatives to globally recognized, peer-reviewed research, reflecting its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This investment also played a key role in the university’s official entry into the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
