University of Samarra treats toxic waste and develops environmental safety programs
The University of Samarra announced its success in treating toxic waste produced this year, which amounted to 3.5 tons, through reuse and recycling methods that included electronic waste and laboratory chemicals.
The university explained that these efforts were carried out in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate and the CBRN Committee, which subject university laboratories to regular monitoring to ensure the safe handling of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials.
The university noted that hazardous waste is classified and sent to recycling plants operated by the Samarra Municipality, while training workshops were organized for laboratory and research center staff to improve their efficiency in toxic waste management.
In addition, the university launched the Future Policy Award 2025, based on United Nations programs and international organizations such as UNEP, ILO, and OECD, to promote safe environmental policies in chemical management.
The university emphasized that these initiatives are part of its vision to enhance environmental safety and reduce risks, ensuring a safe and sustainable academic environment.
