A Faculty Member at the University of Samarra Publishes a Research Paper in a Scopus-Indexed Journal
Professor Abbas Hadi Abbas, a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra, has published a scientific paper in the Tikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, which is ranked in the Q3 quartile within Scopus-indexed journals.
The research, titled “Study the Possibility of Using Treated Industrial Wastewater of Northern Refinery Company, Baiji, Iraq for Irrigation Purposes,” aimed to evaluate the quality and suitability of the wastewater discharged from the Northern Refinery Company for agricultural use by employing the Water Quality Index (WQI) for irrigation purposes.
The researcher concluded that the WQI values for irrigation purposes ranged between 39.5 and 40.75, classifying the water as highly suitable (Category I) for irrigation. This indicates that the wastewater discharged from the Baiji refinery can be used for irrigation purposes, with the recommendation to implement an effective drainage system to avoid the accumulation of heavy metals and prevent soil salinization.
The experiments covered a comprehensive analysis of parameters such as electrical conductivity, pH levels, sodium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonates, chlorides, nitrites, aluminum, arsenic, copper, iron, lead, manganese, nickel, and zinc. These tests were conducted to provide a thorough evaluation of water quality while addressing environmental and health concerns.
