A Faculty Member at the College of Education Earns a Ph.D. from the University of Jazira
Assistant Professor Dr. Waad Adel Latif (a faculty member in the English Department) at the College of Education, University of Samarra, earned his Ph.D. for his dissertation titled “Psycho-Ethical Conflicts and Their Implications for the Disintegration of Female Identity in Russian-American and Iraqi Fiction: A Comparative Study of Selected Novels of Vladimir Nabokov and Ali Badr” after defending it at the University of Jazira in the Republic of Sudan.
In his dissertation, Latif aimed to depict the challenges and conflicts faced by characters due to wars, conflicts, and social and political changes in Western and Arab societies, exploring how these factors impact the disintegration of female identity.
The researcher reached essential conclusions, including that psychological and ethical conflicts stem from the tension between religious and political beliefs and personal desires, causing female characters to experience intense inner turmoil. This is manifested in the conflict between religious commitments and the desire for personal liberation. Subsequently, they feel trapped between their faith in themselves and societal expectations, leading to the disintegration of their female identity.
