A research team at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Samarra university, published a high-level joint research paper in the journal Microbial Biosystems, specialized in microbiology, issued in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and classified in the fourth quartile (Q4) in the Scopus database.
The paper is titled: \\\”Design of a Filter Using Spirulina Algae Powder to Treat Three Different Types of Wastewater,\\\” co-authored by Prof. Dr. Rana Ibrahim Khalil, Assoc.?Prof. Dr. Ifrah Tuma Khalaf, and Dr. Aqil Majid Ahmed.
The team aimed to design a three-layer filter for treating industrial wastewater, composed of sand, carbon powder, and Spirulina sp. algae powder, by testing each type of filter separately after collecting contaminated water samples from three locations for industrial wastewater treatment in the city of Samarra.
The analysis results showed that the values of raw, untreated water exceeded the permissible limits according to World Health Organization standards and Iraqi water standards. The results also demonstrated high efficacy in removing pollutants, as their concentrations decreased significantly. Statistical analyses showed high removal rates, especially when treating wastewater from car wash stations.
The Department of Media and Government Communication at Samarra University congratulates the researchers on their new scientific output, wishing them continued success in their academic and research careers.
