Awareness Seminar at the University of Samarra Discusses the Concept of Green Education and Sustainable Development

The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division at the University of Samarra organized an awareness seminar on the concept of “Green Education and Sustainable Development,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Talfaḥ Muhammad (Division Head), Assistant Professor Dr. Jinan Muhammad Hussein, and Dr. Marwa Basim Saleh.

The speakers aimed to develop environmental programs within educational institutions and emphasized the use of technologies in the educational process, referred to as the “Green University.”

Talfaḥ explained the concept of green education as one of the emerging terms in recent years, especially in light of the focus on environmental systems, distancing from industrial pollutants, and promoting energy conservation in alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Meanwhile, Muhammad discussed the key principles and foundations of green education in Iraq, including attention to the university campus, maintaining a sustainable green environment, and the necessity of writing specialized research on green education and sustainable development.

For her part, Basim stressed the importance of organizing awareness campaigns to preserve the green environment, holding workshops and seminars to raise awareness of the dangers of climate and environmental change, and encouraging the use of alternative energy and the reduction of emissions.

The seminar concluded with a recommendation to develop plans and programs for education that align with the scientific and technological advancements of the modern world, aiming to implement smart programming systems and tablet devices to facilitate the application of the new education system.
