Workshop at the College of Agriculture Introduces Global ISO Standards

The Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection Unit at the College of Agriculture, University of Samarra, introduced global ISO standards through a workshop titled “Introduction to OSHA and Understanding Global ISO Standards.” The session was presented by Engineer Zainab Nabil Salim and Ms. Dhumyaa Hussein Ali.

The workshop organizers aimed to provide an overview of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), clarify its standards and objectives, and explain Iraq’s relationship with the organization.

In the same context, the speakers discussed legislative laws designed to protect workers and ensure their rights, particularly in maintaining safety and health in workplaces.

Additionally, the workshop provided a detailed explanation of ISO, elaborating on what global standards mean, including ISO 9001 (Quality Standards) and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety Standards).

The workshop concluded with an explanation of the necessary procedures to obtain an ISO certification in Iraq, including selecting the appropriate standard, assessing an institution’s current status, identifying gaps, and addressing them.
